I did not expect to do such a turn about. After learning of the great evil that information-gobbling monsters like Google, Verizon, Amazon and every cookie and bot-scraping phish-pushing thief on the planet had become, I at first attempted to get as much off grid as possible without actually going off grid. This meant entering the purgatory that is/was the flip phone.
It was a worthy experiment and taught me that the essential reason to a value smart phones is the text messaging. The second is like it, (two-step verification and lost password retrieval, yadda, yadda.)
But the other round about that came out of this was a heedless willingness to stop defending my good name (and SSN/phone/email/med/etc) from those who amount to effective global empires built on the business of stealing it from me. I’m not saying I’m planning to give away my information for free, nor fail to procure the proper civil protections for the threat of identity theft. I’m saying that I will selectively not defend myself from certain apps and systems all for the sake of the name of Christ.
Hello, CCP, (ahem!) I mean, TikTok. Gmail already owns me, but, perhaps under your reign, boys will be boys and girls will be girls again. I don’t pretend to have the power to stop your influence, but I do know there is precious little light and salt on your platform. So, if the cost is you listening to me while I sleep, as creepy and demonic as that might be, that’s your nasty voodoo. Judgment Day has me covered. I’m going to keep shouting the Name of Jesus Christ out into the rest of your stormy madness.
On We Go
Same can be said of the decision to go with Elon Musk’s Starlink as a replacement to our local (monopoly) internet provider. In the event of infrastructure collapses it might still work…. I’m not confident this isn’t joining the Sith to spite the clones. But, it should provide excellent internet from now (after I set it up) until the day that… what?
What exactly is it that we are so afraid of? Is it one of the scary stories? Or is it all of them? Surely, we have power in the name of Jesus, do we not? One of the most comforting thoughts I have had recently is the recognition that if any evil empire ever comes to cart me away for my stance on marriage, or bodily autonomy, or life, then it will only mean Jesus has asked me to testify before Caesar. That, friends, is a high honor when it comes.
I Threw an Archetyping Question to Bryan Wolfmueller
He and I both explore various frameworks for thinking and content creation. Recently, he shared some work his father had done on quadrant/quarter-whole thinking that proved fruitful. So, I was curious to see what the “Wolfmeller Framework” would spit out of this riddle:
It may have just confused him and everyone else, but the experiment worked for me. After seeing a few other answers suggested, “just out” came to me as the solution.
Wouldn’t you know? I’d been avoiding the problem of not having a clean system of out boxes for some time. Not very Smart of me. But now its in the headlights and what a resolution! These quadrants are already bearing a big impact on my desktop (paper/analog battlefield.)
1. In 2. In Case 3. In Time/Space and 4. Out
These are massively helpful distinctions, especially when “in case” is understood as the “archival” need, and “in time” is understood as “in space,” meaning “within reach” when in need.
It’s Not Good News
The Southern Baptist Convention is arguing over women’s ordination, but I also continue to be surprised that anyone is surprised at any of this any more. Is there some part of “collapsing civilization beneath the wrath of God” that left the impression that things were going to get better?
There’s Quite a Bit More Going On
Whether at the Threshing Floor, on A Brief History of Power, or on the streets of Rockford where I am now praying for my men Kendrick and Jacob, I’m taking serious the challenge Dr. Koontz put to us all two years ago: the looting stage of societal collapse is neither the time to hide nor the time to mend that which is collapsing.
