Daily Blast: The Dip
It’s a book by Seth Godin about that space in the middle, after the excitement of beginning but before the dignification of completion, when the way looks dark and the path uncertain. The fans are not cheering. The aids are not answering. It seems like only you care any more.
This means you’re doing it normal, and the worst thing you can do is give up now. You walked down into that valley for a reason, and it wasn’t to end up where you started. You know growth of the soul is never easy.
So keep your powder dry in the Dip. The great thing about a flat organization is that you only need to do what you want to do. This means there will be projects that start and fail, projects that start again and fail again, and projects that are foreordained to sprout beneath your feet in due season. But if you waste all your shot in anxious over-reaction and crazy-making, when the time comes to “Fire!” you find your ammo spent.
So remember: we have infinite time. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast, and he who hastens with his feet misses the mark. There is only today, and today is therefore the only time that really matters. Today is not here for tomorrow. Tomorrow is here for today.
The worship of tomorrow is gnostic fear-mongering, sent by the demons to distract your aim, wear down your resolve, and steal from you the only moment that matters: this one.
Do something glorious with it.
Valve Theory and Flat Organizing rests entirely on the zeal of the people who are the company. It does require an ingenuitive and subtle leader who enjoys seeing others get the credit. That leader’s voice must be the speaker of the inspiring story in all the right places at all the right times so that all the right nodes on the network get inspired together.
I’m not worried about it. I’m pretty sure Jesus set this thing up under my nose so that I could serve us in this way right now. I have no reason to think his Reformation of your life will be any less wondrous than has been the experience of my own.
“All my days, they are written in your book, when as yet there were none.”
The doctrine of eternal election is the dogma of optimism. The Spiritual power of the Church is patience. If you do nothing but pray about it to Jesus, you have no reason to doubt his clear answer was sent into play before you opened your mouth.
