You have identified and dissected the pattern of individuals that we all have crossed paths in our lives. Well stated!

But what do you do when the scoffer is your spouse? When’d what you desire is confession and absolution? Is the scoffer beyond and impervious to reproach and repentance?

As a biblical category of patterned behavior, yes. But we live in real time, not in theories. Prayer, patience and learning to avoid provocation is the starting place for what you have asked. Psalm 3, Psalm 55, and Ephesians 3-6. Turn the other cheek. Condemn not. Walk at liberty. The fight is not to change the scoffer but to not become embittered by their scoffing. Protect your story, especially when there is no evidence of the capacity to share a story rooted in the Word.
