Where We Stand 07: Vengeance is Mine

When Jesus of Nazareth drove the Sadducean profiteers out of his House of Prayer, He was announcing the fact that evil acts result in their own apocalyptically destructive consequences. God doesn’t need so much to punish evil as to step back and let evil punish itself.

That which is not upright falls down. Bad scales tip over. If you take God for a blind man and seek to rob Him, His wrath will inevitably demonstrate itself within the scheming of your shrewd follies.

Christianity is the religion of the Almighty Creator-God’s vengeance upon the wicked. "His enemies He shall clothe with shame" (Ps. 132:18]. “Jesus Christ has made all for Himself. Yes, even the wicked for the day of doom" (Pr. 16:4).

So when you look out at the personal/psychological fallout infesting the screen-addicted souls of America, when you notice the collapsing familial/paternal support structures of absentee families, when you hear about the neighborhood/political stealing, shunning, and violence, when you despair at the hopelessness of our national/religio-cultural idols, “Talk no more so very proudly!” (1 Sam. 2:3). 

“Let no more arrogance come out of your mouth, for Jesus Christ is the God of knowledge, and by Him actions are weighed. … By strength no man shall prevail. The adversaries of Jesus shall be broken in pieces…” (1 Sam. 2).

Everything you see that looks so “wrong” is God’s meet and salutary punishment of the wicked, which is also His curbing chastisement of the people, and is also, most importantly, the protecting of His children from all their most bitter enemies. 

Nobody steals a vote from Jesus. 

The biblical doctrine of Election is this righteousness of God applied to you: even the vilest chaos shall be compelled to subject itself to His beneficial design. In Jesus Christ, nothing ever actually goes wrong. If you can’t see it from your vantage point, that only means that you have too narrow an angle.
