God has a story to tell you. Trying to run your life yourself will get in the way of this most days. When that happens, it can feel like God is against you. But he is not. He has an even better idea, and it is only a matter of time until you see it.

That’s all it takes. The gist is that easy. It’s magic. It’s inevitable. It’s gold. It’s the secret to Smart.

Given time, enough space and a good pinch of trust, you must improve. It’s a fact of Natural Law. But no design powers itself. There must be added force.

That’s you. You are the force that will put gisting into consistent practice. You are the energy born to harness the matter with discipline.

Smart Noting, or the “Luhman Method,” is the deliberate practice of seeking the gist by taking note of what you take note of. Like all Truth with a capital T, you don’t have to understand it for it to work for you. You just have to do it.

That kind of insight getting Smart is all about. Prudence need not know why the thread tears when pulled. She only need find a scissors.

Did You Forget to Write Down the Gist?

The Gist is Simple

1 Write down (“take note of”) that which you “notice.”

2 Later, after the right amount of time, judge its true value.

3 Translate, elaborate and/or activate it to greater value.

4 Repeat.
