from the new Talk Them Into It
Christian witness is not a defense. That is why it is an offense. “He is risen,” means that he has already won.
Christianity has already had the last word. It is, “Amen!” And, that is only the beginning. Now, therefore, the goal of any conversation is not so much to get your points in as to give witness to those lines that will never pass away. No matter how the fool may boast or scoff, though you may need to mentally shake the dust off your feet, the Christian adventure is the chance to give chorus and frame to the words that are eternal today.
Folly perishes like straw in the fire. The fear of man is disables otherwise courageous hearts. Conviction is difficult to achieve in an age of hirelings. The spirit of the age has capitalized on vice and re-marketed it right back to you. The entire planet is trapped in a devil’s game of idolatries, bigotries and excuses, all of which conspire to silence you from speaking the name of Jesus Christ out loud and often. Rather, we are a people trained to watch, a rootless breed watered on entertainment, ideologues at heart, ever-expecting a neat package and a happy ending.
We have grown weak.
And stupid.
Perhaps worse than both, numb.
Wilting daisies, imbibing the mythologies of every peddler that comes our way, we are without excuse. But we are not without grace. We are not without the burning lamp. We are not without the Victory.
We are always still called. We are always still chosen. It still called Today.
