Thanks for this Pastor Fisk! As a fellow GenX'er, the drive to build bigger barns and stack away more grain is incredible, and wrong. I appreciate the law and the gospel here. What a great way to start the work week.

Excellent Godly perspective! Man, apart from God, is unable to manage the weight of his own power. As in Genesis 11 or Romans 1, when mankind glorifies himself and trusts in his own wisdom and strength, he creates the very tools of his destruction.

Number 8:23-26 God commands Levitical priests to cease working as priests at age 50. Only mention that I am aware of.

So... pastor/lawyers need to walk away before they become kings.... opposite of just about everything we actually do.

Thanks for the comment! :D

This is a good groundbreaking piece breaking into our contemporary materialism. There are areas to round out, though:

It is primarily women who drive the financial advisor industry. Why? Because they worry about what they should live on when their husbands die or become incpacitated. Likewise, when a man is no longer able to work but is loved by his children, it's a great blessing, but if they are like vultures circling waiting for him to shove off, it's a great curse.

I'm not even 60 but have felt the heaviness of Ecclesiates 12 encroaching since my crisis at Bethel in 2013. I am in a race to fight it off for as long as I can and finally prodice a result in my life I can be proud of (God have mercy on my wretched soul.)

May my sons and daughters (who admittedly love me a great deal) be a blessing to me when my grinders are few. I already know my vision has dimmed from what it was, though it's still decently highres, I need more light than I used to.
